FAST FASHION IS STEPPING ASIDE TO MAKE ROOM FOR A NEW VISION OF FASHION, SUSTAINABLE AND A BIT NOSTALGIC

Fast fashion is giving way to a new concept of fashion that is both sustainable and nostalgic for the past. Reinterpretations of beloved and iconic archive clothing give birth to new luxury brand garments. The new generation of purchasers is concerned about the environmental impact of waste and energy conservation. In this setting of metamorphosis, or rather, development, a new trend is emerging: upcycling, or the reuse and augmentation of the old.

A NEW CRAZE IS EMERGING: THE REUSE AND ENHANCEMENT OF THE OLD, THE UPCYCLING

UPCYCLING: WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT

Many of you are already aware that ‘upcycling’ is the creative recovery of materials of any sort, fabrics or clothes from inventories and stocks that serve as the foundation for various products and new creations. Used garments and warehouse remnants are converted into fresh collections that are widely sought after by fashionistas thanks to this technology.

The production process is also altered by upcycling: the designer typically hunts for production waste or materials to be used before creating the sketch, thereby disrupting the traditional process of garment creation and execution.

LUXURY HOUSES ARE PICKING UP THE THREADS OF UPCYCLING

Even the world’s most opulent fashion houses, embracing ethical principles, are creating new outfits from old textiles. Prada introduces the Re-Nylon collection in its new collection, Miu-Upcycled Miu’s is a new concept of revisiting classic designs from the 1930s to the 1980s, and Hermes aims at recycling with a workshop dedicated to giving new life to neglected waste materials. A huge shift in the industry, a step toward a true cultural revolution.

UPCYCLING REACHES THE ‘MAINSTREAM’

Celebrities, who serve as role models for millennials, also help sustainable fashion initiatives by embracing green and zero-impact ideas. Gigi Hadid, for example, was photographed in the streets of Paris a few months ago wearing a multicolored patchwork cardigan by Ukrainian designer Ksenia Schnaider. Or consider the stunning Winnie Harlow, who recently shared photographs of herself wearing an unique ensemble made from Puma socks designed by our great designer Matacomplex.

In recent months, Revibe has received an increasing number of requests from artists and public figures to collaborate with us on creating unique and sustainable collections – a clear example of this is the most recent edition of the TV show XFactor Italia 2021, which featured participants wearing our garments. Something sparked an interest in upcycling on the big screen.

In short, it appears that innovative recycling and the utilization of existing materials have finally become fashionable. Do you believe upcycling is the hottest fashion trend right now? Leave a comment and let us know what you think.
