Short-sleeve shirts aren’t only for heatwaves, and these prove it.

If the only short sleeve shirts in your closet is a flowery number from a costume party, it’s time to elevate your game.

Of course, there’s nothing wrong with a bright Hawaiian number, but there are a plethora of different looks you can create with a short sleeve shirt besides Leonardo DiCaprio in Romeo + Juliet (1996).

There are numerous styles to pick from:

Knit shirts in the style of Goodfellas, pocket-filled workday shirts, bowling shirts, basic striped shirts, oversized shirts… the list goes on. Of course, in the height of summer, throwing on any of these options with a pair of shorts is all that’s required for the day, but it’s not quite that simple in the fall.

When dealing with indecisive weather, it goes without saying that you’ll want something with thicker material than some of the styles you’ve been wearing on the beach. It’s also a good idea to wear a t-shirt or tank top underneath, as shown above by Michael B. Jordan and Joe Jonas – an unappreciated style icon.

Layering is also recommended, as this makes Fall the season to really start dressing.

Nobody has mastered the art of layering with a short-sleeved shirt quite like Tyler, The Creator. In my opinion, he is the G.O.A.T. when it comes to wearing loafers or shorts.

If you’re as crazy with his style as I am, you’ll know he has a few favorites that he alternates between: the slightly cropped sunflower yellow one with a raw hem, the leopard print Golf Wang shirt, and a blue Hawaiian design. He’s shown that short-sleeved shirts don’t have to be banished to the back of the closet after every summer by mixing them with fall basics like a quilted jacket, a cardigan, or a baseball jacket.

Tyler was the only person (to my knowledge) who could pull off a Hawaiian shirt and jacket combo earlier this year.
