7 Anime Characters Who Never Reached Their Full Potential

Despite the immense hype around these anime characters, they never quite achieved their true, full potential.

Most anime series have so many characters that they cannot devote adequate time to all of them, causing their progress to stagnate. The most common victims of this dilemma are side characters, who are presented with much fanfare only to never live up to it.

Other anime characters are handled in such a way by the writers that they fall short of their objectives. This can be frustrating at times, especially given that these people were potentially more gifted than the main protagonists if these anime characters had reached their full potential.

Itachi Uchiha (Naruto)

He was labeled a prodigy from the start, and it didn’t take long for him to become one of the biggest names in the Hidden Leaf. Itachi worked hard and aced all of the examinations. He joined the ANBU at an early age, and all of his accomplishments demonstrated that he was on the right track.

Masashi Kishimoto, the series’ author, didn’t take long to weaken Itachi. It was revealed that Itachi had a mystery ailment that was impeding his growth. Itachi couldn’t fight all out since his condition would kill him. Itachi would have surely become the series’ strongest character if he hadn’t become ill.

Gohan (Dragon Ball)

Goku’s son’s name is Gohan. Many admirers thought Gohan had the capacity to outperform his father when he was younger. Gohan attained his pinnacle during the Cell Saga, when he fought Cell.

Gohan was undoubtedly the strongest character on Earth after fighting Cell. One would expect that Gohan would practice even harder to widen the gap between himself and others, but the young Saiyan was content with his current level of power. As a result, he did not workout and let his potential to be wasted.

Gon (Hunter x Hunter)

Gon is a well-known anime character from the series Hunter x Hunter. He distinguished himself from the other youngsters from an early age. Gon was always looking forward to his next experience on the island, and when he was mentally prepared, he headed out to take part in the Hunter Exams.

He was a star performer in the examinations, and every participant was impressed by his performance. Gon trained with several individuals and grew stronger with time, and everyone recognized his potential. During the Chimera Ant storyline, Gon defeated Neferpitou, but the young Hunter lost his ability to utilize Nen as a result. If nothing changes, Gon may never be able to reach his full potential.

Nel (Bleach)

Nel is a well-known side character in Bleach. She first appeared in the Hueco Mundo arc, and she quickly made a reputation for herself. She is a member of the Arrancar race, and she has gathered a lot of fighting experience over the years.

Fans were pleased by Nel during the Hueco Mundo arc and expected her to play a larger role in the series. However, Kubo had other designs for Nel, and she eventually fizzled out, owing to the large number of characters.

Iwabee (Boruto)

He is a Boruto: Naruto Next Generations anime-only character. Iwabee made an immediate impression in the series when he initially appeared. As fans learned more about his skills, he appeared to be one of the most powerful members of the new generation.

He aced all of the Academy’s physical exams, and his only flaw was that he couldn’t pass the written exams. Iwabeen has scarcely appeared in the series since the anime began adapting manga material, which has been damaging to his development.

Portgas D. Ace (One Piece)

D. Portgas Ace is Luffy’s older brother. Ace began to build a reputation for himself soon after leaving Foosha Village. During his voyage, Ace discovered the Mera Mera no Mi, which bestowed upon him the ability to manipulate and create fire. Ace appeared to have a bright future ahead of him with such a tremendous skill.

Whitebeard took him in and appointed him Second Division Commander of the Whitebeard Pirates. Ace was eventually killed during the Summit War, bringing his adventure to a halt. He was the son of Gol D. Roger and sailed under Whitebeard’s name, so there was definitely a lot riding on his shoulders. However, it became evident along the Marineford arc that Ace was nowhere near those two individuals.

Jotaro Kujo (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure)

In Stardust Crusaders, Jotaro Kujo is one of the few characters who appears in multiple parts of the story. He is also the main character of the series. Jotaro’s Stand was revealed right at the start of Part 3, and after only a few battles, it became abundantly evident that it possessed an impressively high level of power.

Jotaro awoke the ability to halt time as he was engaged in combat with DIO, which enabled him to triumph over the adversary that threatened his family. Unfortunately, after Jotaro defeated DIO, he did not put in as much effort into his training, which may have contributed to his decline in strength. In addition to this, there is a good chance that he could have become the most powerful character in the series if he had gotten his hands on the Stand Arrow and stabbed himself with it. It is quite possible that this outcome would have occurred.
